My time in DC has come to an end. It’s been a great experience (And I got hooked up fat along the way, Holla at your boy), and I was able to do lots of cool things while I was here. So I thought for my last blog I’d share the highlights of my adventures in DC. So here it goes!
Museums n’ crap
One cool thing about DC is there are hella museums all over the place, many of them free. All the Smithsonians are pretty legit and can be found all along the mall. Whatever your taste is, Space and planes, History, Dinosaurs and crap, art, or even the Holocaust, you can spend hours in these places and still not see everything. I would suggest if you do check out some of these museums that instead of trying to see them all, pick one or two (depending on how long you’re staying), relax, and enjoy the exhibits instead of rushing through em’ and trying to see the best of everything.
My favorite museum however has to be the Newseum. It sounds kind of lame, and it does cost 21 bucks, but you get a two-day pass, and it’s probably worth the cost. It takes you through many of the major news stories during our countries history and really emphasis the significance they had on the country/world. The presentation of many of the exhibits highlights the impact it had on people, many of which were highly emotional, such as the Berlin Wall, Hurricane Katrina, and 9/11. If you don’t mind spending a little bit of money, I highly recommend checking this place out.
The Monuments
First thing to say, everything is way bigger than you realize, which is kinda cool in a way, but at the same time, if you hate walking, you’re gonna be miserable, cause you’re gonna be walking a long long long long long way to see everything, especially if you decide to see the capitol as well (about 2.5 miles from the capitol to the Lincoln).
Probably the best monument around is the Lincoln Memorial, and if you start at the Washington Monument, you can catch some of the other cool stuff along the way (reflecting pool, WWII monument, Korean and Nam). I guess the only thing I have to say about them is that they really screwed Tom Jefferson over big time. I mean, first off, the Jefferson memorial is a bitch to get to, and then once you finally reach it, it’s not even that cool compared to the Lincoln. Whoever made the memorial must had something against the guy, cause damn it sucks getting over there, especially when they got construction and other bull crap going on. Personally, I liked the guy, cause he did help found the country and all, and he died on the 50-year anniversary of the 4th of July, so he had to love his country a lot! Maybe if I ever become president, I'll properly accommodate Mr. Tom-Jeff after completion of the National Lil Wayne Memorial.
Places to eat
The tightest resturaunt in DC is Ohh’s and Ahh’s Soul Food, Period, Exclamation! It’s located on U street, where there is a fine selection of ethnically diverse food, ranging from Ethopian bull crap to Chili Dogs. Even though Bill Cosby likes the chilidogs (I found them to be just mediocre), Soul Food is where it’s at hands down. Number 1, When you ask for sides, they hook you up fat! Number 2, everyone in there is super black and is down with the jive lingo and hella rappers go there all the time (including Drake, NAS, and T.I.), so you know it’s good. Number 3, the Hot Wings. SOOOOOOO GOOD! They don’t F*** around with that sissy stuff. BW3’s gots nothin’ on these wings! They make em’ big, spicy, and blazin’ with flavor. They were too much for that Ben Woodward kid to handle, but he sucks. God I hate that kid. But as food goes, that’s pretty much all you need to know. Take the Green metro to the U Street/African American Civil War Memorial (Sometime the Yellow Train works too) exit out the 10th and U Street exit (Not the 13th and U Street exit). It’ll be right across the street, maybe there are a lot of other good places to eat around DC, but as far as I’m concerned, that’s the only place that matters. That and McDonalds during McRib season.
The cool places to go while DC other than the obvious
Chinatown – Lots of resturaunts, and lots of LED. The most high tech Chinatown I’ve ever seen, (Not counting Chinatowns in real China, but I haven’t even seen those, so whateva).
Adams Morgan – For all the hipsters. If you like Capitol Hill in Seattle, you’ll like this place.
U Street – As mentioned above, has some good eats around that area, and has some other local stuff that people that aren’t into touristy kind of stuff can dig. A tight skate shop’s close by too!
Georgetown – F*** Georgetown
Arlington Cemetery – The place to go if you wanna pick up chicks! (I accidently stumbled upon the vice president giving a speech there one day too.)
Final thoughts
I like how a lot of the cities over here are in close proximity to each other, and are easily accessible by train. If you wanted to go to Philly for a day, just a 2 hour train ride. Baltimore’s only an hour away, and NY’s like 4 to 4.5, but it’s easy to see lots of things out there. So keep that in mind and the rest of this crap I posted when planning your vacation to our nation’s capitol.
DC might be kinda lame though if you have to pay rent, and don’t get money everyday for food, but it treated me well, and it’s just about time to come back home and rejuvenate your spirits (I’m surprised some of ya’lls are still alive to be brutally honest). Maybe someday I’ll come back, but for now I’m comin’ home if only for the purpose of whoopin the shit out of Ben Woodward! That kid’s a piece.
See ya’lls soon! For America…
